Art--inspired by War

Sydney Carline, The Destruction of the Turkish Transport in the Gorge of the Wadi Fara, Palestine, 1918, oil on canvas,

Artist: Sydney Carline 1884-1929

War represented and meaning: This very colorful, yet graphically disorientating painting is a representation of WWI and the attacks that were carried out towards the Turkish troops during their retreat. The location of this picture is the valley of Jordan, located in Wadi Fara gorge. I appreciate the artist’s use of viewing the gorge from above, almost to symbolize heaven or looking down on the horror. The use of light and depth perception on this picture give great significance to what it was like to be an Arial pilot as well. Sydney himself fought in the war as a pilot and used the planes SE5s in his painting. Very beautiful indeed
